Importance
of Fitness
The
availability of processed foods, easy access to fast food restaurants
and a sedentary lifestyle has contributed to the burden of disease.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2006), physical
inactivity increases the risk of diseases such as cardiovascular
disease, obesity, hypertension, depression, anxiety and some types of
cancer. A sedentary lifestyle is one of the ten leading causes of death
and disability. According to research done by the American Heart
Association, regular exercise can lower the chances of cardiovascular
diseases by at least 50%.
